Women stage protest with empty pots at Gram Panchayat office

Women in Tungaturthy mandal of Suryapet district staged a protest with empty pots at the Gram Panchayat office, alleging severe drinking water shortage for the past two months and accusing officials of ignoring repeated complaints.

Nalgonda: Summer is still months away, but women in Tungaturthy mandal in Suryapet are struggling to fetch a pot of drinking water. Irked over the official apathy in addressing the drinking water crisis, the women staged a protest at the Gram Panchayat office on Friday with empty pots.

The women charged that for the last two months they were not being supplied with sufficient water. The taps had gone dry and due to inadequate water supply, villagers were facing a lot of inconvenience, the women complained.


Despite repeated appeals and complaints, the panchayat officials were least bothered about addressing the drinking water crisis. During this festival season, women were forced to walk long distances to borewells to fetch a pot of water, they said, as per reports.
