Khammam: The State government has taken steps to expedite the completion of Sita Rama Lift Irrigation project to irrigate lands in erstwhile Khammam district, Transport Minister P Ajay Kumar said on Monday.

Addressing a public meeting at Sakinaveedu in the district, he said the tail-end ayacut now being irrigated with NSP waters would be fed by Sita Rama project which would address irrigation needs of farmers permanently.

The Minister earlier inaugurated five new Rythu Vedikas built at a cost of Rs 22 lakh each in Yerrupalem, Buchireddypalem, Meenavolu, Jamalapuram, Banigandlapadu and Ramannapalem clusters and gram panchayat office building at Sakinaveedu in Yerrupalem mandal.

Following the government’s initiative to construct over 2,000 Rythu Vedikas across the State, 129 Rythu Vedikas have been constructed in Khammam. All newly inaugurated Rythu Vedikas have to be brought into use immediately, he said.

Farmer to farmer interactions and farmer to agriculture officials and scientists should take place regularly at the facilities. Agriculture scientists have to be available in every cluster to guide farmers to adopt modern and profitable farming techniques, Ajay Kumar suggested.

ZP Chairman L Kamalraj speaking on the occasion noted that the Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao has been striving for the welfare and growth of poor and suppressed classes as well as farmers in the State.

The Rythu Vedikas were meant to unite the farmers to help them make collective efforts towards adaptation of modern farming. The farming community was taken care of by the government like never before, he added.

TS Seeds Development Corporation Chairman, K Koteswara Rao, DCC Bank Chairman, K Nagabhushanam, District Collector, VP Gautham, District Agriculture Officer Vijaya Nirmala and others were present.

Later in the day, Ajay Kumar made a surprise visit to Government High School at Siripuram in Madhira mandal. During his visit he interacted with teachers and students. He enquired about the facilities available at the school and told the headmaster to repair the flooring of classrooms.
