Warangal Urban: The Greater Warangal Municipal Corporation is taking all steps to expedite the process of constructing the Metro Neo Rail project in Warangal city, GWMC Commissioner Pamela Satpathy said on Thursday. Chairing a meeting at her office, she discussed the Detailed Project Report (DPR) at length via video-conferencing with the Technical Committee of UMTS (Urban Mass Transport Company Limited), Maha Metro, Nagpur, Hyderabad, and Pune for setting up Metro Neo Rail.
Technical experts have made several suggestions on the Comprehensive Mobility Plan. The technical team collected inputs from the respective departmental officials and discussed the formation. The commissioner said several rounds of talks had been held so far and officials from TSRTC, Police, Transport, NPDCL, and R&B Department had cleared the local issues from Kazipet to Warangal for setting up a Neo line. She said that a final DPR would be sent to the government for approval after making changes in it by considering any issues from the officials from TSRTC, Police, Transport, NPDCL and R&B Department. The project cost is estimated at Rs 1,100 crore.
Since Warangal, the second-biggest city in the State after Hyderabad, transforming day by day, the State government decided to take up the Metro Neo Rail project in Warangal. A 17-km long rail project connecting Kazipet railway station to Warangal railway station via Petrol Pump, Hanamkonda Chowrasta, Mulugu Road, MGM Centre, Pochamma Maidan, Kashibugga and Venkatrama Junction will be constructed on the elevated corridor.
The State government in consultation with the Union Government will take a decision on the Metro Neo Rail. It has to take a call on the financing modalities on the project too before going for the tenders.
