Hyderabad: To promote antimicrobial good practices, stewardship and address the growing concern of antimicrobial resistance, an Antimicrobial Stewardship Workshop, featuring over 104 registered doctors, microbiologists and healthcare professionals from various hospitals, was organised by Osmania General Hospital (OGH).

The workshop, which was organised by Microbiology department and Infection Control Team of OGH, featured expert talks on various topics, including pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics, global importance of antimicrobial resistance (AMR), antimicrobial resistance mechanisms, antifungal resistance, and upgrading conventional laboratories to antimicrobial stewardship programs (AMSPs).


Speakers in the workshop, which was inaugurated by Dr. Nagarjuna Chary, Principal, OMC, and Dr. Rakesh Kumar Sahay, Superintendent, OGH, were Dr. Srinivas, Clinical Pharmacologist, OGH, Dr. Shanta Kumari, Yashoda Hospital, V. Radha, Chief Scientist, Dr. Umabala, NIMS, Dr. Arun Kaushik, Manager, Biomerieux, Dr. Padmaja, Professor of Microbiology, OGH, Dr. Geetha, Associate Professor of Microbiology, OGH and Dr. Kavitha, Associate Professor of Microbiology.

Hands-on training sessions were conducted by the Microbiology Department, led by Dr. Uzma, Dr. Nazia, and Dr. Preethi. Experts also discussed the implementation of CLSI, EUCAST, and IDSA guidelines, as well as AMR surveillance and WHO NET.
