Woxsen University honours Stanford Professor Dr John PA Ioannidis
Dr John PA Ioannidis, Greek-American physician-scientist and Stanford University Professor, received an Honorary Doctorate at Woxsen University Convocation 2025. Over 800 students graduated, while Dr Ioannidis praised India’s scientific progress and projected it may surpass the US by 2029

Hyderabad: Acclaimed Greek American physician-scientist, writer, and Professor at Stanford University, Dr John PA Ioannidis was conferred an Honorary Doctorate at the Woxsen University Convocation 2025 held here on Saturday.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr Ioannidis said, “India stands today as a remarkable example of progress with responsibility. In science, India is already the third most prolific country in the number of annual scientific publications, and at the current rate, it is estimated to overtake the United States by 2029.”
At the convocation, over 800 students from undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral programmes across Woxsen University’s schools — Business, Technology, Arts & Design, Architecture & Planning, and Liberal Arts & Humanities — were conferred their degrees.
Praveen K Pula, Chancellor of Woxsen University, said, “Woxsen was born out of a dream to build a university that would stand among the most beautiful in the country — globally ranked, internationally accredited, and defined by world-class infrastructure and sports facilities like no other.” The Annual Report 2025 was presented by Abhijit Shirodkar, Registrar of Woxsen University.
