Hyderabad: Energy Minister G Jagadish Reddy on Wednesday demanded that the BJP government at the Centre give a written agreement on enhancing paddy procurement target in Telangana for Vaanakalam.
“When the same Central government entered into an agreement to purcuase of 40 lakh metric tonnes of paddy, why is it now hesitating to give a written agreement for enhancing paddy procurement?” he asked, adding that the BJP was treating farmers as enemies.
“Why will we continue to stay in New Delhi if we get an agreement letter from the Union Food, Consumer Affairs and Public Distribution Piyush Goyal? Since Goyal said he will respond in two days, we are staying in New Delhi,” he said.
Stating that no one can separate farmers from Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao, Jagadish Reddy said it was the Central government which was delaying shifting rice ready for transport from mills. “The Central government says it ill purchase 40 lakh metric tonnes of paddy from Telangana, but Food Corporation of India (FCI) officials say they did not get any instructions. This is the reason for our request to the Centre to give a written agreement,” he said.
The Minister said Piyush Goyal, a businessman, was least bothered about the interest of farmers because his business interests are more important to him. He said Telangana society was watching everything. The Centre is only interested in politics in Telangana and not the farmers’ interests, he said, adding that BJP will face the wrath of the people on the procurement issue.
He said the Congress, which was acting as a B-Team to BJP, has no leader in the State. “When Congress leaders alleged that a Rs.16,000 crore scam took place, why did they not raise the issue in Parliament?” he asked.
