Hyderabad: Dr Vijay Kumar, Unit Head, Yashoda Hospitals-Secunderabad, inaugurated an exclusive Trigeminal Neuralgia Clinic at Yashoda Hospitals Secunderabad on the eve of World Trigeminal Neuralgia Day. “We can give a permanent solution to Trigeminal Neuralgia through a keyhole endoscopy microvascular decompression,” Dr Vijay Kumar added.
In layman’s language, Trigeminal Neuralgia is like an abnormal surge of electricity caused by a short circuit, a press release said.
“To rectify the problem, all we require is to mobilise the wire which causes the short circuit. Similarly, a blood vessel touches the nerve in a particular position and causes the surge of pain sensation of trigeminal nerve. This comes as severe, sharp, shooting, intolerable pain, which is known as trigeminal neuralgia,” said Yashoda Hospital’s Senior Neurologist & Head – Cerebrovascular Unit Dr R N Komal Kumar.
“With the advantage of the best possible 360-degree visualisation of the nerve and the least possible surgery-related complication, this is currently the choice of surgical treatment,” said Dr Ayya Durai R, Senior Neuro Surgeon & Head – Neuro Endoscopy & Robotic Neuro Surgery Unit, Yashoda Hospitals.
