Yelgoi panchayat demands suspension of orders until full rehabilitation package is paid
The Yelgoi gram panchayat in Sangareddy has opposed orders seeking transfer of certain panchayat powers under NIMZ Zaheerabad to NICZISCL and TGIIC. It demanded pending rehabilitation compensation, employment for locals and continuation of panchayat rights over 1,356 acres.
Sangareddy: The sarpanch and ward members of Yelgoi gram panchayat in Jharasangam mandal have demanded that the Panchayat Raj and Rural Development department cancel the orders given to the panchayats, seeking the transfer of certain powers from panchayats falling under NIMZ Zaheerabad to the National Industrial Corridor Development and Implementation Trust–Zaheerabad Industrial Smart City Limited (NICZISCL) and the Telangana Industrial Infrastructure Corporation Limited (TGIIC).
After receiving the directions, the panchayat organised an emergency meeting on Friday to discuss the issue with the villagers. Since the government failed to provide rehabilitation packages to oustees under NIMZ, the village panchayat demanded the suspension of the orders until the compensation is paid. Citing GO 38, sarpanch Lakshmi said that taking possession of lands before paying the rehabilitation package is against government rules.
She said that payment of packages to agricultural labourers, who were holding no land, is also pending. Since several cases regarding the compensation package were pending in the High Court, the sarpanch said that TGIIC must cancel the orders. She also demanded that the government provide 60 per cent of employment to locals in the industries which were coming up in NIMZ, apart from paying pensions to all the elderly. She said that the government must continue panchayat rights over 1,356 acres of land in the village until all the compensation is paid.
