Hyderabad: A 28-year-old doctor who had just completed senior residency in general surgery at Gandhi Hospital, passed away on Wednesday morning in the hospital campus due to heart attack.

The doctor, Dr Poorna Chander on Wednesday morning was in Gandhi Medical College and Hospital campus in Secunderabad with his fellow senior residents when he suddenly collapsed. According to his friends, the young doctor was shifted to Acute Medical Care (AMC) of the hospital where the doctors gave him CPR and did their best to revive him.

However, Dr Chander did not respond to the treatment administered by the hospital doctors, who declared him dead due to a major episode of Myocardial Infarction (MI), commonly known as heart attack.

“He is a product of Gandhi Medical College and Hospital and had recently completed his residency in General Surgery. It is quite unfortunate to lose a bright doctor at such a young age. He was in the campus to meet his fellow senior residents and had collapsed all of a sudden. Our senior team of doctors at the emergency did their best to revive but could not save him,” said Superintendent, Gandhi Hospital, Dr M Raja Rao.

According to junior doctors from OGH and Gandhi Hospital, Dr. Chander had earlier complained of slight chest pain and upset stomach on Tuesday. He apparently had taken some medicines for upset stomach and was yet to decide on undergoing a through health check-up, before he suffered a heart attack.
