Hyderabad: Hyderabad-based independent cinema has earned national attention with REO: The Dangerous Peak, a short documentary that brings together a daring mountaineer, a young filmmaker, and an ambitious production house.
The 30-minute film has been officially selected for the Dadasaheb Phalke International Film Festival (DPIFF) 2026, marking a significant milestone for all those involved.
At the heart of the documentary is Yashwanth Naik, a 21-year-old mountaineer from Telangana, whose journey into extreme high-altitude climbing forms the backbone of the film. Yashwanth is no stranger to formidable summits, having previously scaled Mount Kilimanjaro (Africa) and Mount Elbrus (Russia). His latest and most challenging expedition was to Mount Reo Purgyil, rising to 6,816 metres, regarded as the highest and one of the most dangerous peaks in Himachal Pradesh.
The Reo Purgyil expedition was sponsored by Granules India Ltd, whose support played a crucial role in enabling the climb. Recognising the strength and inspiration of Yashwanth’s journey, SKI Productions decided to document the expedition, resulting in REO: The Dangerous Peak.
The film is directed by Shourya SreeKere, a 19-year-old independent filmmaker from Hyderabad, who leads a team of young creatives, all under the age of 24.
Shot entirely during the expedition, the film captures the climb in real time, portraying the intense physical strain, mental endurance, and uncertainty that define high-altitude mountaineering.
Cinematically, REO: The Dangerous Peak blends authentic on-ground footage with a refined visual approach. The narrative is elevated by an original musical score composed by Sudha Srinivas P, adding emotional depth to the journey, while Chandan Sai Madineni’s editing shapes the documentary’s immersive storytelling.
Produced by SKI Productions, the film also received additional expedition support from Jurala Organic Farms and Agro Industries. The official poster has been digitally released, marking the beginning of the film’s festival journey.
With its selection at DPIFF 2026, REO: The Dangerous Peak not only celebrates the courage and determination of mountaineer Yashwanth Naik but also highlights the vision of director Shourya SreeKere and the commitment of SKI Productions, showcasing emerging talent from Hyderabad on a prestigious national platform.
