‘Young Journos’ reaches out to Covid-hit scribes in Khammam
Around 40-50 like-minded news reporters from different media houses got together under the banner of 'Young Journos' to provide essentials and drugs to media professionals and families
Kothagudem: Doing their part to boost the morale of Covid positive scribes, a group of young journalists have been calling on them, besides providing them with essential commodities.
Around 40-50 like-minded news reporters from different media houses got together under the banner of ‘Young Journos’ to do charity work. For the past one month, they have been visiting residences of journalists who contracted Covid-19 across the district.
“Among all, journalists are the most affected in the second phase of Covid and they remain neglected despite their best services to the society. And we felt that they needed psychological support more than anything else”, said Ragalla Pravin Kumar, a member of Young Journos.
Therefore, the members of Young Journos are paying visits to journalists who are in home quarantine. During the visits, kits containing dry fruits, medicines and essential commodities like rice, dal and others are being provided to them, he told Telangana Today.
The money required for the purpose is generated from contributions by members of Young Journos and sometimes with the support of generous donors, informed the group members, Panduga Reshwanth and Uppu Ramkumar Reddy.
They said they were inspired by Young Journos formed in Hyderabad sometime back and decided to emulate it in Kothagudem district under the guidance of its Hyderabad members. It is a group without any affiliation to any union and working independently to serve journalists.
Journalists Antadupula Shekhar, B Shekhar, Hanmanthu Satyanarayana, Vasala Shekhar and others are actively taking part in Young Journos activities. A WhatsApp group has been created to discuss their work and over 15 journalists have been given assistance so far, they informed.
