Young man ends life after being denied Indiramma housing funds
A 27-year-old man from Siddipet died by suicide after officials reportedly denied funds under the Indiramma Illu housing scheme, citing deviation from the approved plan. The victim had borrowed heavily to construct the house. Police have registered a case.
Siddipet: A 27-year-old man, who was denied funds under the Indiramma Illu scheme on the grounds that his house was not built as per the prescribed plan, ended his life at Vallampatla village in Dhoolmitta mandal on Friday night.
Naradasu Srikanth, had lost his father in childhood and was raised by his mother, Anjamma, who worked as a labourer. The family, without a permanent house, had applied for a unit under the Indiramma Illu scheme and were sanctioned one in the second phase.
Hoping to fulfil their dream of owning a home, the mother and son began construction by borrowing money from friends and relatives. However, when they approached officials seeking the release of sanctioned funds, the officials reportedly rejected their request, citing that the house was not constructed according to the approved plan.
Despite the setback, Srikanth insisted on completing the house up to the slab level with more borrowed money. But when his further attempts to secure additional loans failed, he reportedly became depressed and took the extreme step.
An inconsolable Anjamma, who had already lost her husband, was left devastated by her son’s death.
The police have registered a case. Meanwhile, Jangaon MLA Palla Rajeshwar Reddy demanded that the government take stern action against the officials responsible for Srikanth’s death.
