Hyderabad: A 25-year-old man died by suicide on the railway tracks after allegedly losing money on online betting games near the Secunderabad railway station on Saturday.
The young man, identified as Rajveer Singh Thakur, a private employee and resident of Suchitra, was addicted to playing online games and slowly started using online betting applications. He was unmarried and lived with his paternal uncle.
According to the police, Rajveer had fallen prey to online betting and gaming apps, which eventually cost him substantial financial losses. Driven by his addiction, he borrowed huge money from his friends, which he failed to return.
“He kept borrowing money to clear the debts taken to cover losses from online betting games but was unable to repay it. This mounted mental pressure on him,” police officials said.
He was reported to be upset for the past several days. Despite his uncle’s intervention and efforts to ease his pressures, the young man jumped in front of a running goods train near Secunderabad.
Based on a complaint from his uncle, the Government Railway Police booked a case and an investigation into the matter is underway.
