Hyderabad: A youth allegedly attempting to burgle a house was caught red-handed at Hydernagar in Kukatpally on Thursday night.

According to reports, Sudheer (26), a B.Tech student, had been conducting recce in the area for the past three days before attempting the break-in on Thursday night.

Locals, however, were alerted, caught him, and beat him up before handing him over to the police.

Sudheer confessed that he had become addicted to betting and had lost around Rs 20 lakh. In desperation, he attempted theft to clear his debts.

A mobile phone, a knife, and a bike were seized from him. The police are investigating the incident.
