Hanamkonda: Youth Congress activists created a ruckus at the Namaste Telangana Hanamkonda unit office here on Wednesday and tore copies of the newspaper.
Around 150 activists carrying Youth Congress flags reached the office at Madikonda and staged a protest, shouting slogans against the print media and the newspaper. They tried to barge into the office but were prevented by the staff. The protesters, said to be followers of Wardhannapet MLA KR Nagaraju, allegedly abused the staff, including women workers, and warned them against publishing news critical of the MLA and Congress leaders. The chaos continued for nearly an hour.
On learning about the incident, Madikonda police reached the spot and dispersed the protesters. The unit branch manager Ashok Kumar and staff lodged a complaint with the Madikonda police as well as the Commissioner of Police Sunpreet Singh.
Meanwhile, TUWJ (IJU) district president Sriram Ramachander, general secretary Matta Durga Prasad, and electronic media wing district president Kandula Sridhar strongly condemned the attack on the Namaste Telangana office.
They said it was not right for any political party or public representative to threaten the media and journalists, who represent the fourth pillar of democracy. If they had any objection to news reports, they could issue a clarification or condemnation, but it was undemocratic to threaten or attack media personnel.
The journalist leaders demanded immediate arrest of those involved in the attack and strict action against them as per law.
