Karimnagar: A youth, Nagelli Venkatesh Reddy (29), died by suicide after recording a selfie video at Ramancha village in Chigurumamidi mandal. In the video, he cited financial disputes with his parents and brothers as the reason for taking the extreme step.
Venkatesh Reddy, who was running a supermarket in Chigurumamidi, allegedly attempted suicide by consuming pesticide on Monday evening on the outskirts of the village. Local residents shifted him to a hospital, where he died while undergoing treatment.
In the video, Venkatesh Reddy stated that he had invested Rs.10 lakh to establish the supermarket, while his family members had invested Rs.12 lakh. However, he alleged that they later claimed to have invested Rs.17 lakh and cheated him.
He said he had already returned Rs.4 lakh to them and sought one year’s time to clear the remaining amount. However, they allegedly refused to allow him to sit in the supermarket unless the balance amount was paid.
He also alleged that his family members had planned to keep him under their control. Unable to compromise on his self-respect, he decided to end his life, the video stated.
In the video message, he apologised to his wife Mounika for leaving her midway without fulfilling his promise of spending his life with her. He also appealed to the Sub Inspector to ensure that Rs.10 lakh from his investment was given to his wife.
Venkatesh Reddy, who was in love with Mounika, had married her two months ago. The police registered a case and took up an investigation.
