Nirmal: Tension prevailed in Surjapur village of Khanapur mandal in the district on Thursday as members of a community staged a protest demanding action against the culprits who killed a youngster for loving a girl belonging to another community. Four persons were booked for their alleged involvement in the murder.
Nirmal DSP Upender Reddy said that the deceased was Racharla Anil (23), a degree student, son of one Venkataramulu. While Anil belonged to the Yadava community, the girl hailed from the Kapu community, police said. The accused were girl’s father Gajula Naveen and his three siblings Gajula Nagaraju, Gajula Ganganna, Gajula Rajanna, all belonging to the same village.
Anil was indiscriminately assaulted by the girl’s family with deadly weapons on Wednesday night for reportedly speaking to the girl. The youngster was dragged onto the streets with his hands and legs tied. He succumbed to injuries while undergoing treatment in a government hospital in Nirmal later in the evening.
It is learned that family members of the girl were at loggerheads with Anil’s family for quite some time now. Family members of the girl and Anil lodged complaints against each other with police in the past. Moreover, the police had tried to pacify the two parties, but in vain.
After the incident, members of the Yadava community obstructed the police who were shifting Anil’s body from Nirmal to the village and blocked the road for about 5 hours. They however withdrew their protest when DSP Upender Reddy assured them of justice and registered cases against the four accused.
