Hyderabad: The fifth Secunderabad Club TISCON Youth Open Regatta was formally inaugurated by Telangana Minister of Labour, Employment Training and Factories, Dr G Vivek Venkatswamy, on Saturday.
Mr Ashwin Singh, Vice-president of Secunderabad Club, and Mr Aditya Jain, title sponsor and representative from TISCON Readybuild, graced the event.
This prestigious five-day regatta, to be held till July 30, is recognised as a YAI-ranking event and is a crucial pathway for selections to national teams representing India in international competitions.
Over 100 young sailors from across India are competing in four exciting boat classes — ILCA 4, 29er, Optimist Main/Green, and the Open 420 category.
Races will be conducted daily from 8:30 am to 12:30 pm and from 2 pm to 5 pm at Hussain Sagar Lake here.
The teams to watch include the Secunderabad Sailing Club comprising Vaneesha Alampur, Shringari Roy, Ishi Gupta, and Shrishti Singh; and the ILCA 4 team of Kritika, Rishith Alampur, Diya Patel, and Agastya Damishetty.
It is informed that Maanya Reddy, last year’s SSC winner, is currently representing India at the 2025 ILCA 4 Youth World Championship in the USA and won’t be competing this year.
Another big attraction could be 14-year-old Shringari Roy in the Optimist girls section, having recently won gold in the YAI Youth and Junior ranking event, and also qualified for the International Optimist Asian Championship in Oman later this year.
This season, two talented sailors from Sri Lanka, along with their coach, captain of the fleet, and supportive parents, will also be in action.
