Hyderabad: As part of elaborate security arrangements being made for the GHMC elections, Rachakonda Police will have a total of 10,000 police personnel to oversee the security arrangements to prevent any untoward incident.
Rachakonda Police Commissioner Mahesh M Bhagwat said 8,000 civil and 2,000 armed police personnel will be deployed across the commissionerate which has 1,637 polling stations, including 53 classified as hyper-sensitive.
“Adequate security measures will be in place for sensitive and hyper-sensitive polling stations which have a history of trouble. Armed policemen will assist the regular security personnel at these stations. A three-tier security bandobast is being planned with the assistance of Central Paramilitary Forces across Rachakonda,” Bhagwat said.
The police are setting up check-posts at 29 places and 90 pickets were placed at different points to check flow of money, liquor and gift articles to influence voters.
“Area domination exercises and flag marches are being conducted to instill confidence among the public. Camera-mounted vehicles will be stationed at sensitive places and also move around to immediately record any unruly behavior from anyone,” he said, adding that the police were keeping an eye on history sheeters and trouble-mongers. So far, 89 persons were bound over and this apart, 353 arms license holders had deposited their weapons at police stations.
Six flying squads and six static surveillance teams were working round the clock to conduct random checks for violations of the Model Code of Conduct.
“Armed policemen will be guarding the ballot papers and ballot boxes at six DRC centres,” Bhagwat said.
