Kothagudem: As many as 14 cadres of CPI (Maoist) Party from Chhattisgarh surrendered before Superintendent of Police B Rohith Raju here on Monday.

Errapalli Revolutionary People’s Committee (RPC) militia commander Madivi Bhima, Errapalli RPC Chaitanya Natya Mandali (CNM) president Sodi Unga, Kistaram area CNM commander Kovasi Nanda alias Srinu were among the 14 Maoists who surrendered to the police.

Rohith Raju stated that as part of an Athmeeya Sammelanam organised by the district police with the family members of the underground Maoist cadres and surrendered Maoists at Cherla in January the police officials informed them about the benefits of surrendering before the police. As a result of which as many as 44 Maoists surrendered before the district police in the last two months.

The Maoists who surrendered on Monday realized that the banned CPI (Maoist) Party has lost support and trust among the tribal people for some time now because of its outdated ideologies, extortion and obstruction of development of the agency area, he said.

Rohith Raju appealed to the Maoists who want to surrender and lead a normal life to contact their nearest police station or district higher officials, either through their family members or in person. The district police would ensure to extend all kinds of benefits offered by the government for the livelihood and rehabilitation of the surrendered Maoists, he added.

Additional SP (Operations) Paritosh Pankaj and Bhadrachalam ASP Vikrant Singh, Cherla CI Raju Varma and Manugur DSP Ravinder Reddy were present.
