16 more students of KGBV fell ill in Adilabad

Adilabad: Sixteen students were hospitalized when they had contaminated food at Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalaya at Vidyanagar in Adilabad on Thursday. The students suffered from vomittings, diarrohea and stomach pain. They were admitted to Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) where their condition was progressing. Samples of food and water were sent to a lab for ascertaining the reason of the incident. A Special officer Himabindu and an Auxiliary Nurse Midwife (Padma) working with the institute were suspended.
In the meantime, Collector Sikta Patnaik visited the school and instructed the officials concerned to provide quality and hygienic food to the inmates. She told the students and parents not to panic and assured that steps would be taken to prevent similar incidents in the future. She added that an officer was designated to conduct an inquiry into the food contamination. On Wednesday, 46 students belonging to this Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalaya fell ill after consuming stale food on Wednesday.
The headmistress Shobharani was suspended for showing negligence in providing food to students of a primary school at Gotkuri village in Thamsi mandal. A total of 28 students were hospitalized when they had lunch at the school on Wednesday.
