Medak/Siddipet: In separate heart-wrenching incidents, two constables hanged themselves to death — one of them after poisoning his wife and children — in Telangana.

In the first case, head constable Sai Kumar (52) was found hanging from a tree on the premises of the Kulcharam police station in Medak on Sunday morning. The head constable, who was allegedly in a relationship with a married woman, is suspected to have died by suicide after the woman’s husband lodged a complaint with Medak SP D Uday Kumar Reddy against the constable recently. Fearing action after departmental inquiry, he hanged himself on the premises of the Kulcharam police station.

Locals said Kumar, who was on duty, woke up on Sunday morning and went for a walk before having tea. He was found hanging at 7 am.

In the second case, a TGSP constable and his wife poisoned their children before attempting suicide by consuming the same substance at their residence in Kalakunta of Siddipet district early on Saturday. The constable, Bandari Balakrishna (34) hanged himself to death later. Neighbours rushed Balakrishna’s wife and children — Yaswanth (11) and Ashrith (9) — to the government hospital in Siddipet. Their condition is said to be stable.

Balakrishna, who was working in the 17th battalion in Siricilla, reportedly lost about Rs.25 lakh in online betting. Since he had borrowed a majority of this amount from friends and relatives, he was reportedly under pressure for repayment. Unable to clear the debts, Balakrishna allegedly gave poison to his wife and their two sons. Balakrishna, who also consumed the same poison, however hanged himself later in the early hours of Sunday. The one-town police registered a case and the probe is on.
