Kothagudem: As many as 20 militia members of the proscribed CPI (Maoist) party surrendered before Superintendent of Police (SP), Sunil Dutt and CRPF141Bn officer from Cherla mandal here on Wednesday.
Speaking to the media persons, the SP informed that surrendered militia members were from Yerrampadu, Ramchachandrapuram, Boorugupadu, Bakkachintalapadu, Chennapuram and Veerapuram villages.
They have been working as militia members for the past one year under the Maoist Cherla Area Committee Secretary Aruna. In recent times they have been forcibly taken for training to Pesarlapadu, Puttapadu and Chanda areas on Chhattisgarh-Telangana borders by the Maoists.
They were frustrated at the Maoists’ harassment and forcible collection of ration regularly from them. Hence they decided to live peacefully and to reject the Maoist party and its ideologies, the SP said.
Dutt appealed to those who want to come out of the Maoist party and live a good life to voluntarily surrender at their nearest police station along with weapons either personally or through relatives or village elders.
