Hyderabad: The free Covid-19 vaccination drive for people categorised under high risk groups continued in the city for the second day. Around 22,399 persons were administered with the vaccine in Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) limits on Saturday compared to 21,666 on Friday.
Beneficiaries were also allotted a time slot to avoid crowding inside the vaccination centers. The tokens issued to people who took the jab on Saturday had ‘time of vaccination’ mentioned on it along with the date. People who came early to the vaccination centre were stopped by security personnel and were asked to visit the centre as per the time slot.
Most of the people who were administered with the vaccine on Saturday were those working in grocery shops, street vendors and markets –vegetable, fruit and meat. The GHMC decided to vaccinate around 3 lakh people in its limits as part of the massive vaccination drive. A total of 32 vaccination centres have been set up across the city for the purpose.
Those working in Rythu bazars, grocery shops, wine shops, street vendors, salon shops, laundry service, pan shops and markets (vegetable, fruits, flowers, chicken, meat, fish) are categorised under high risk groups and eligible for free vaccines. The GHMC officials are distributing the vaccination coupons by visiting the stalls of these people. The vaccination centres were monitored by elected representatives, GHMC officials and police.
