Hyderabad: Upset over losing huge money to online games, a youth died by suicide at Khanamet in Madhapuron Sunday night.
SM Aravind (23), a degree student at a private degree college, was staying with his parents and sibling in a rented house in Khanamet. According to the police, though the time when he started is unclear, Aravind started spending money on online games and also online betting.
However, he could not earn anything in return and lost all the money. Upset over the losses, he recently informed the matter to his family who supported and comforted him. However, the youngster continued to remain isolated most of the time.
On Saturday, Aravind left the house without informing his parents. His anxious family members, with the help of Aravind’s friends, traced him to a friend’s house and brought him back to the house.
Again on Sunday, he reportedly played online games and lost about Rs 50,000 again. Apparently upset over it, Aravind hanged himself from the ceiling fan in his bedroom using a dupatta. His parents found him hanging and shifted to the nearby government hospital, where the doctors declared him dead.
On receiving information, the Madhapur police booked a case and took up an investigation. Officials said they were working on the clues and checking if online games and online betting was the only reason for Aravind’s death.
