Hyderabad: The IT corridor in Cyberabad will be the first area in Telangana State to enjoy 24×7 uninterrupted power supply, in the true sense, with the Telangana State Southern Power Distribution Company Limited (TSSPDCL) deciding to open two more switching stations in addition to the recently inaugurated station in Madhapur.

The TSSPDCL is in the process of establishing these 33KV switching stations to ensure seamless power supply in the prime area even if any IT company has an internal power issue. The Madhapur switching station, set up at a cost of Rs 8 crore, is the first-of-its-kind in the State, a senior TSSPDCL official told ‘Telangana Today’.

The two additional switching stations will come up at IIIT-Hyderabad and Nanakramguda. The main objective behind setting up these 33KV stations is to cover the entire IT corridor in Cyberabad. “Works pertaining to installation of the two switching stations are progressing at a brisk pace. We expect them to be ready for inauguration within the month,” he said.

Explaining in detail the necessity of switching stations, he said continuous power supply would not only enhance the reputation of the State but also increase productivity in the IT companies. “It’s nothing but ensuring power supply round-the-clock to IT companies without any disruption,” he said.

Earlier, in the event of any IT firm having any power issue, the corporation had to stop the power supply in the entire area to rectify the problem. “But, with the switching stations in place, there will be no need to stop power supply to the entire area, and instead, localise it to the building that has a power problem,” he said, adding that in the past, the power supply used to be disrupted for more than two hours to resolve issues.

Representatives of IT companies welcomed the TSSPDCL’s move which will benefit as many as 1,200 small and medium companies in the IT corridor. There are over 6.5 lakh persons working in these IT and ITeS industries in the area. “Continuous power supply will help us in monitoring cost operations,” said Bharani Kumar Aroll, president of Hyderabad Software Enterprises Association (HYSEA). He said that any technology-driven initiative will help the industry.
