300 drivers caught in Cyberabad drunk driving crackdown; Police warn of strict action under new law

Of the drivers caught, 278 had blood alcohol concentrations (BAC) between 50 mg/100 ml and 200 mg/100 ml, 17 recorded BAC levels between 200 mg/100 ml and 300 mg/100 ml, while five were found with BAC levels ranging from 301 mg/100 ml to 500 mg/100 ml.

Hyderabad: The Cyberabad police during a special drive on Saturday caught a total of 300 drivers that include 231 two-wheelers, eight auto rickshaws, 58 four-wheelers and three heavy vehicles.

The Miyapur police caught the highest of 35 people during the drive followed by RC Puram with 33, Shadnagar with 31 and Alwal with 30.


Among those caught, 278 drivers tested blood alcohol concentrations (BAC) ranging between 50 mg/100 ml and 200 mg/100 ml, 17 people had BAC ranging between 200 mg/100 ml and 300 mg/100 ml and five were caught with BAC ranging between 301 mg/100 ml to 500 mg/100 ml.

All those caught will be produced before the court for legal proceedings, the traffic police said.

The police warned that if anybody indulges in driving under the influence of alcohol and cause accidents killing people, such persons will be arrested and sent to jail under section 105 of Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita2023 (culpable homicide not amounting to murder) for which maximum punishment is 10 years of jail and with fine.
