Hyderabad: Apollo Hospitals, Jubilee Hills, in collaboration with Anatomiz3D Medtech Pvt Ltd, has launched a 3D-printing laboratory that will enable to fine tune prosthetic implants to suit the varying needs of each patient.
The novel 3D technology enables to recreate the exact replica of patient anatomy from the CT or MRI scan. The technology assists surgeons to visualise the anatomy ahead of the surgery, do pre-surgical planning, determine the clinical approach, and provide a precise communication to the patient and his attendants on the approach being adopted.
“We expect this technology to be a game changer. It empowers surgeons to see the hitherto blind spots, optimise the surgery with minimal harm to the tissue and surrounding organs,” says Dr Sangita Reddy, Joint MD, Apollo Hospitals Group.
Recently, senior heart and lung transplant surgeon, Dr AGK Gokhale performed a redo CABG (coronary artery bypass graft) on patient by using the technology. “The 3D printing of the graft enabled us to create a safe surgical pathway. It was amazingly helpful for dissection and for the success of the surgery,” Dr Gokhale said.
