76-year-old from Hyderabad with multiple complications undergoes heart procedure
Care Hospitals, Hyderabad, successfully treated a 76-year-old critically ill patient with a leaking heart valve using a non-surgical TEER procedure. The Indian-made MyClip device helped avoid surgery and improved the patient's life in a high-risk, complex case.
Hyderabad: Care Hospitals, Banjara Hills, on Monday announced that its surgeons have successfully performed a Transcatheter Edge-to-Edge Repair (TEER) procedure using indigenous MyClip (Meril) device on a critically ill 76-year-old patient, suffering from mitral valve regurgitation, also known as a leaky heart valve.
The elderly high-risk patient with diabetes, hypertension, COPD and kidney disease, was diagnosed with severe Mitral Regurgitation (MR) and acute myocardial infarction (heart attack).
Led by Dr V Surya Prakasa Rao, clinical director and Head, Cardiology, Care Hospitals, Banjara Hills, the team performed a non-surgical TEER procedure using the indigenous MyClip (Meril) technology.
Two clips were precisely delivered to stabilise the mitral valve under echocardiographic guidance, significantly reducing the mitral regurgitation. This was an extremely high-risk patient, and surgery was not an option. By using the indigenous MyClip technology for TEER, we were able to offer a minimally invasive, life-saving solution that improved his quality of life, Dr V Surya Prakasa Rao said.
