80th Independence Day celebrated with patriotic fervor in Adilabad

The 80th Independence Day was celebrated across the erstwhile Adilabad district with patriotic programmes, flag hoisting and cultural events. State government advisors and senior officials highlighted welfare schemes and urged officials to work towards the district’s development

Adilabad: The 80th Independence Day was celebrated with patriotic fervour across the erstwhile Adilabad district on Saturday. Mohammad Ali Shabbir and Harkara Venugopal, advisors to the State government, Banda Prakash, Deputy Chairman of the Telangana Legislative Council, and Vemula Veeresham, government whip, were the chief guests at the celebrations.

In Adilabad, Ali Shabbir, accompanied by Collector Rajarshi Shah, hoisted the Tricolour flag at Police Parade Grounds. He remarked that the district was shining in many fields, with authorities working in tandem. He asked officials to contribute to the development of the district by striving hard with the same spirit.


Narrating the benefits of welfare schemes introduced by the government, Ali said that 3.89 crore eligible women had availed themselves of the Mahalaxmi or free bus scheme in the district so far. As many as 1.02 crore women got LPG cylinders for Rs 500 under the Grihalakshmi scheme, while 1.03 lakh people benefited from the Grihajyothi initiative. Beneficiaries of the Indiramma Indlu housing scheme were paid Rs 311.36 crore, he explained.

Cultural programmes were organised, while students sang patriotic songs and presented skits, enthralling audiences. Best-performing officials were given certificates of appreciation as part of the celebrations. MLAs Payal Shankar and Anil Jadhav, Superintendent of Police Akhil Mahajan, municipal chairperson Bandari Anusha, Agriculture Market Committee chairperson B Srikanth Reddy and libraries corporation chairman M Narsaiah also graced the occasion.

Meanwhile, Venugopal, Prakash and Veeresham took part in similar colourful celebrations hosted in Mancherial, Kumram Bheem Asifabad and Nirmal district headquarters, respectively. They were joined by Collectors Kumar Deepak, Haritha and Bhavesh Mishra. DCP A Bhaskar, SP Nitika Pant and Dr Janaki Sharmila were also present.
