Mancherial: A nine-year-old boy accidentally drowned in a pit dug by Singareni Collieries Company Limited (SCCL) near a railway track meant for its thermal power plant on the outskirts of Tekumatla village in Jaipur mandal on Sunday.

Jaipur police said that Chippakurthi Raj Kumar, the son of Vishnuvardhan, met a watery grave when he was playing near the pit. His body was retrieved and sent for postmortem.

Meanwhile, parents of the boy staged a dharna seeking justice and demanding action against the officials of the SCCL’s thermal plant by holding them responsible for the death of Raj Kumar. They withdrew the protest when police assured them of justice by probing into the incident.
