Adilabad: Teams from the Airports Authority of India (AAI) visited the site of the proposed airport to be created in Adilabad, on Friday.
The teams carried out a survey titled obstacle limitation surface (OLS) at the site, inspected the surroundings and assessed structures, trees, etc., that might become obstacles for aircraft. They visited colonies and residential areas likely to be affected. They were accompanied by local MLA Payal Shankar.
Speaking to media persons, JP Sabharwal, a team member said that a full-fledged defence training-civil airport would be established with modern facilities in the town on a sprawling 1,540 acres of land in 2 or 3 years. He said that the airport would contain an air-traffic control centre, terminal, etc. He disclosed that a 2.5 kilometre-long runway would be built for facilitating arrival and take-off of aircraft.
The team would submit their report within 20 days to the AAI which would prepare a master plan. They added around 700 more acres of land would be acquired in addition to the existing 820 acres of land belonging to both defense and state.
Payal Shankar said that the opinion of people to be displaced by the airport would be gathered. He opined that the long-pending dream of people of flying would be realised in near future.
