Hyderabad: TRS working president and IT Minister KT Rama Rao said that freedom of expression had become a right to abuse in politics and this was unfortunate.
Speaking to select media persons at Telangana Bhavan, the Minister, citing political disturbances in neighbouring Andhra Pradesh and the recent arrest of Union Minister Narayan Rane for his remarks against the Maharashtra government, said the Telangana government has never made such arrests. “Yet, they abuse the Chief Minister and call him a dictator,” he said, adding, “Despite this repeated practice of abusing the Chief Minister, he has only instructed party leaders and cadre to maintain decorum and not to lose composure. Such is the discipline in TRS.”
In a scathing attack on the opposition parties, the TRS working president said the State government had addressed several issues including power shortage and water supply which had plagued the region for the past 60 years. “This turnaround in Telangana, especially the rural areas, was achieved within a short time,” he said.
Finding fault with Congress and BJP for criticising the State government on welfare and development programmes, he urged the two parties to check if any State was performing better than Telangana. “I dare any Congress or BJP ruled States including Gujarat to showcase their development and match it with Telangana,” he said. People gave many chances to Congress and BJP but they had failed, he pointed out, adding that the TRS got only chances and within this short period, there has been significant development in the State.
Impressed with the TRS government’s achievements and welfare programmes, people including Karnataka BJP MLA from Raichur constituency Shivraj Patil wanted Raichur district to be merged with Telangana, he pointed out. “BJP MLAs and leaders in neighbouring States are recognising the good work of TRS government. Unfortunately, Telangana BJP leaders have turned a blind eye to the State’s development,” he said.
Citing the examples of steady investments into State or performance in Ease of Doing Business, he said Telangana has been consistently on top. The State has not conducted any economic conclave or investment summit or any programme like Vibrant Gujarat. Despite this, many companies are investing in the State. Take any sector, including administrative reforms, Telangana is performing excellently, he said.
TRS schedule packed for next 9 months
With the constitution of TRS party Committees nearing completion, TRS working president KT Rama Rao said there will be a lot of activity in the party, including training sessions for leaders and workers during the next nine months. Already mandal, town, village and ward committees have been set up and the TRS president election would be held on Monday. After November 15, the new party president will inaugurate the party offices constructed across the State, he said adding that nominated posts will be filled up shortly by appointing deserving candidates.
To strengthen the party further, a team of leaders will accompany the TRS working president to study the practices adopted by the DMK party in Tamil Nadu. Explaining the reasons for conducting party Vijaya Garjana at Warangal on November 15, he said the Telangana government had achieved a lot during the last seven years and there was a need to showcase the achievements.
“In the past, people were criticised for speaking in Telangana dialect but now movies are being made in the dialect, besides top actors are speaking in the lingo. It has now become fashionable,” said Rama Rao adding Central government’s discrimination towards Telangana also has to be exposed. The Industries Minister said it was not fair to blame the State government for escalating fuel prices.
In 2014, when Prime Minister Narendra Modi was Gujarat Chief Minister, he lashed at the UPA government for failing to control escalating fuel prices but after becoming Prime Minister, he was not initiating any measures to slash the fuel prices, he said.
