Siddipet: At least four key BRS leaders sustained injuries in an attack allegedly by Congress workers in Gajwel constituency while police were taking them into custody on Tuesday. The injured leaders were former Markook MPP Krishna Yadav, former Gajwel Market Committee chairman Madasu Srinivas, Markook mandal BRS president Karunakar Reddy and former MPP Pandu Goud.

The BRS leaders alleged that police acted rashly while taking them into custody, resulting in Pandu Goud fracturing his leg.

Congress workers and leaders, who arrived from Yadadri-Bhongir while proceeding to former Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao’s residence at Erravelli, allegedly pelted stones at Krishna Yadav’s residence at Varadarajapur. His car and house were also damaged, while police allegedly remained mute spectators.

While Srinivas, Karunakar Reddy and Pandu Goud were protesting at Markook, police took them into custody, drawing strong opposition from BRS cadres who blocked the police vehicle. However, police eventually managed to shift them to another vehicle.

BRS Gajwel constituency in-charge Vanteru Prathap Reddy staged a sit-in on the Rajiv Rahadhari at Singaipally to protest against the police behaviour. He was subsequently taken into custody.

Several BRS leaders led by Macha Venugopal Reddy arrived at Rao’s residence at around 6 am on Tuesday to prevent Congress workers from allegedly attacking the residence. However, police promptly took them into custody.

When BRS leaders from Markook mandal submitted a representation at the Dr B R Ambedkar statue in Erravelli over the alleged failures of the Congress government, police also took them into custody.

When Congress leaders arrived from Yadadri-Bhongir to lay siege to Chandrashekhar Rao’s residence, police accompanied them for around 3 km instead of taking them into custody, drawing criticism from the BRS.

Senior IPS officer Joel Davis, IG S Chandrashekhar Reddy and IPS officer Anuradha, Commissioner of Police, Siddipet, oversaw security arrangements across Gajwel constituency on Tuesday.

Circle Inspectors, Sub-Inspectors of Police and other police personnel who had worked in Gajwel over the past 10 years were deployed across the constituency.
