Nalgonda: Tension prevailed at Clock Tower Centre in the town on Monday when ABVP activists burnt the effigy of Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao even as TRS leaders and activists were staging a protest in the same place.

A group of ABVP activists reached the Clock Tower Centre and burnt the effigy demanding justice for first year intermediate students who had failed. The TRS activists were already staging a protest there with an effigy of Prime Minister Narendra Modi in protest against the anti-farmers’ policies of the Centre.

The TRS activists did not get provoked even when ABVP members raised slogans against the Chief Minister.

When the ABVP activists refused to heed to the request of Deputy superintendent of police Venkateshwar Reddy to disperse, police swung into action and took them into custody. Another group of ABVP members that rushed to the spot, squatted on the road in front of the vehicle shifting the arrested activists. This led to tension in the area and police took all measures to ensure that no untoward incident took place.

The police took all the ABVP members into custody and whisked them away in their vehicle.
