Nirmal: Mild tension prevailed for a while as ABVP activists picked up an argument with police for detaining them on the premises of the Sri Gnana Saraswathi Devasthanam-Basar on Saturday.
Around 120 activists arrived at the shrine to draw the attention of Minister Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy, who was scheduled to visit the temple, on the suicides of RGUKT-Basar students.
They were detained by policemen, who were deployed at the shrine in view of the Minister’ tour to Basar. They raised an objection to the police for lifting them when they were visiting the temple.
The activists found fault with the police for not allowing them to visit to the shrine. They asked why police were keeping them under preventive detention. A heated argument took place between the activists and police.
However, the activists were shifted to Lokeshwaram, Basar, Mudhole and Bhainsa police stations.
