Peddapalli: Anti-Corruption Bureau sleuths on Tuesday arrested Anthargaon Tahsildar Vayyapu Ramesh for demanding a bribe of Rs 12,000 from the owner of a tractor to release the seized vehicle. Meanwhile, Revenue Inspector Sridhar escaped after noticing the ACB officials
According to ACB authorities, police recently seized the tractor of the victim Alakunta Mahesh from Ramagundam for transporting sand from Godavari river without valid documents. The vehicle, which was seized at Lingapur village, was bound over before the Tahsildar. When the victim approached him, the Tahsildar demanded Rs.1 lakh to release the tractor and refused to reduce the amount even after repeated requests. When he approached the officer through another tractor owner Darangula Srinivas, Tahsildar accepted to settle for Rs.12000.
Mahesh, who was not in favour of giving a bribe, meanwhile approached ACB officials, who hatched a plan to trap Revenue Inspector Sridhar, who took the amount from the victim in the Tahsildar’s office on Tuesday.
However, after seeing ACB sleuths, RI escaped from the spot after throwing the cash away. ACB officials arrested Tahsildar Ramesh, while efforts are on to nab the missing RI.
