Adilabad: Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) officials conducted searches at inter-State Regional Transport Authority (RTA) check posts across the erstwhile Adilabad district on Sunday, seizing Rs.1.31 lakh in unaccounted cash from the staff.
The sleuths seized Rs.1.26 lakh from the Bhoraj check post in Adilabad district, Rs.5,100 from the Wankidi check post in Kumram Bheem Asifabad district, and Rs.3,000 from the Beltharoda check post in Bhainsa mandal of Nirmal district.
Staff of the Transport department were reportedly collecting bribes from drivers of vehicles violating road safety norms, with the help of privately recruited individuals. The government had earlier decided to remove such check posts after facing criticism for rampant bribery, yet they continue to operate.
In April, ACB officials had raided the inter-State check post at Wankidi mandal centre and seized Rs.45,000 in unaccounted cash from the staff.
