Hyderabad: The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) seized Rs. 2.4 lakh in unaccounted cash from A. Srinivas, HMWSSB Joint Director, during a surprise check on Saturday evening.
According to the ACB officials, the agency received an anonymous call alleging that a senior HMWSSB official was carrying cash illegally collected at his office while proceeding towards his residence.
Acting on the information, the team kept surveillance and intercepted the car at around 7 pm opposite Metro Residency Apartments on Raj Bhavan Road.
The vehicle was found to belong to Srinivas, who is posted at the HMWSSB office in Khairatabad. During the check, the officials found Rs. 2,40,000 in unaccounted cash in his possession.
When questioned about the cash, which he was carrying while returning from office, Srinivas reportedly failed to provide a satisfactory explanation and gave inconsistent versions, the ACB said.
The officials seized the cash under a panchnama for further verification, including examination of the possible corruption angle. The ACB brought the matter to the notice of the Income Tax Department for necessary action.
Further action will be taken based on the outcome of the verification, the ACB said.
