Hyderabad: MLC K Kavitha has demanded that the Central Government accord national festival status for the Medaram Jatara and to enhance the ST reservations to 10 per cent. The MLC also questioned BJP State unit president Bandi Sanjay for the negligence of Central Government towards Medaram Jathara. “It is a matter of pride for us as Asia’s biggest tribal festival – Sammakka Saralamma jathara takes place in Telangana,” she tweeted on Monday.

The MLC also shared the copies of letters written by Tribal Welfare Minister Satyavathi Rathod to Central Government seeking national festival status for Medaram jathara.
Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao has allocated Rs 332.71 crore for organising the Medaram festivities since last four years, she said. “Why has the Central Government not sanctioned a single rupee for Medaram festivities, besides it has also failed to accord national festival status for the festivities despite repeated requests from Telangana government” she questioned Bandi Sanjay.
