Hyderabad: Niddhi Agerwal is a little worried with the present scheme of things, but she feels it doesn’t show much impact on the space she is currently enjoying as a star. Unwilling to talk about Omicron scare, third wave or the film industry scenario, Nidhhi single-mindedly looks forward to her film ‘Hero’, a romantic comedy, which is hitting the screens worldwide soon. “The load of cases does worry me a bit, but I hope everything falls in place very shortly,” she says.
Niddhi plays a vet in ‘Hero’, where she’s the love interest of protagonist Ashok Galla. Soon after attaining success with ‘iSmart Shankar’, do you think ‘Hero’ is the right film to experiment with? “I didn’t think so much, I want to go with the flow, after signing ‘Hero’, I landed a project with Pawan Kalyan sir. I don’t think it really matters. What matter for me are performing well, being professional and hard-working, and then people will want to cast you; it doesn’t even matter it is a new-hero film or a star film – I’m the best example, because I’m doing new hero film and also Pawan Kalyan’s film,” says Niddhi.
“I don’t want to do just big star films, I want to try and mix it up, because sometimes you might get good characters which I don’t want to miss,” she adds.
Speaking more about the film, the actor says star Jagapathi Babu is playing her father, and the film offers a new lease of situational comedy to audiences. “I’ve combined scenes with both Ashok Galla and Jagapathi Babu garu. There is a lot of drama between the two families headed by Naresh and Jagapathi Babu. There are twists in the story. Songs will bring commercial appeal but the story is offbeat,” she adds.
The Hyderabad-born actor says she has a strong connection with the city, but couldn’t pick Telugu as she grew up elsewhere. “I want to keep doing films as much as I can, and start a business of my own; my family is also into business and I’m a business student as well. Probably, I would start a charitable foundation soon,” she adds.
The ‘iSmart Shankar’ girl says she has a love-hate relationship with the title ‘Glam doll’. While admitting there’s nothing wrong with playing a glam doll in films, she says, “Definition of glamour is different for different people; it is not a bad thing, I accept the title, I’ve no problem being called glamorous. But I’m also doing a Tamil film in which I’m playing a de-glam role, without makeup – it’s a dull, dark story with a sad climax sequence. If someone gives me an offbeat story of this kind, at least I can prove that I can do non-glam roles,” she says.
The secret of her beauty. “Well, I love to have simple food; I’m a vegetarian and usually have curd rice, dal roti. Three small meals a day, and a 45-minute workout makes me lively,” she adds.
How do you improve your craft film by film? “I don’t think you can exactly learn acting. It differs with different characters and it’s different with various directors. I don’t think it is something that you can learn. Best way to learn is to act with the best directors in the industry. Watching a lot of films, content on OTT, it’s more of a mental process for me. I’m not someone who prepared well before taking a shot at acting; I always wanted to be a heroine. I’m learning the ropes on the job, I am learning it every day. I always see it as one-step ahead, better than my last film,” she says.
