Actor Kasthuri Shankar arrested in Hyderabad
According to available information, Kasthuri was reportedly arrested in Gachibowli by a special team from the Tamil Nadu police and is being escorted back to Chennai. However, local police stated they were not notified about the arrest by their counterparts.
Hyderabad: Popular actor Kasthuri Shankar was reportedly arrested by the Tamil Nadu police in Hyderabad on Saturday. Kasthuri is facing charges for allegedly making derogatory remarks against the Telugu community in Tamil Nadu.
As per available information, Kasthuri is reported to have been taken into custody in Gachibowli here by a special team from the Tamil Nadu police and being taken back to Chennai. However, the local police said they were not informed about the arrest by their counterparts.
Recently, the actor had allegedly passed derogatory remarks against the women of Telugu community residing in Tamil Nadu. Her comments sparked criticism, and an FIR was filed by a member of the Naidu Mahajana Sangam State Executive Committee back in Tamil Nadu.
In response to the backlash, Kasthuri issued an apology on her X account, asserting that ‘false news’ was being spread by “Tamil Nadu’s Goebbels and the anti-Hindu DMK network”.
On Thursday, the Madras High Court dismissed the actor’s anticipatory bail plea. It also observed that her apology did not directly address the comments about women.
