Hyderabad: The State government on Saturday issued orders according to administrative sanction for Rs. 2,278.14 crores towards land acquisition of 2,009 acres and shifting of utilities towards Joint User Airport (JUA) at Adilabad.

The government has directed the District Collector, Adilabad to acquire 2009 acres, including 1,609. 23 acres for the Indian Air Force and 400 acres for Civil Aviation Enclave, MRO, cargo facilities, hangars etc.

The District Collector has been instructed to complete the land acquisition and shifting of utilities, including diversion of existing R&B roads, shifting of high tension towers of 765 KVA, shifting of streams, drinking water utilities, dismantling of electrical poles among others, preferably by December 31, 2026.

The Adilabad Airport project is being developed as a JUA facility involving the Airports Authority of India (AAI) and Indian Air Force (IAF) to support both civil aviation and IAF operations. Initially, it was decided that acquisition of 700 acres would suffice for the project.

However, the Telangana government wanted the airport to be developed for operation of A-321 in IFR conditions (Airbus A 321 for day and night operations).

Accordingly, the Ministry of Defence conducted a survey and informed that a 9,000 ft runway was required. At present, the IAF already has 369.45 acres and it requires an additional 1,500 acres adjacent to the present land for complete training establishment, as identified in the survey report.
