Adilabad: A Sub-Inspector was arrested by Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) sleuths while allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 40,000 in Bazarhathnoor on Wednesday. ACB Adilabad DSP G Madhu said Bazarhathnoor SI G Ramesh was caught red-handed after receiving the bribe from a complainant.
Ramesh had initially demanded Rs 50,000 for not registering a case against the complainant following the suicide of an unmarried woman. He agreed to accept Rs 40,000 after the complainant requested him to reduce the amount. He received the money, which had been placed under centering boxes as instructed by the SI.
The SI had reportedly threatened to book a case against the complainant as the woman had made her last phone call to him before ending her life. He was produced before a special court for ACB cases in Karimnagar and remanded to judicial custody.
