Adilabad civic polls see record nominations across municipalities

The erstwhile Adilabad district witnessed an unprecedented rush of candidates filing nominations for civic body elections on Friday. Mancherial Municipal Corporation alone saw 186 sets of nominations, while municipalities across the district reported heavy participation.

Adilabad: There was an abnormal rush to file nominations to eleven urban local bodies including Mancherial Municipal Corporation (MMC) and 10 municipalities across erstwhile Adilabad district on Friday.

Candidates made a beeline to submit nominations from 60 divisions of MMC at special counters created in the Integrated District Officers Complex in Naspur mandal centre. They were accompanied by followers and supporters. They expressed confidence winning in the maiden elections to the corporation.

Officials said that the total number of nominations filed would be known by midnight. They stated that the civic body saw 186 sets of nominations on the second day, on Thursday. While 133 candidates supported by the Congress filed nominations, 97 BRS-backed candidates submitted their papers. Seventy-four candidates belonging to BJP filed nominations.

Bellampalli municipality registered 97 sets of nominations, while Chennur, Kyathanpalli and Luxettipet civic bodies recorded 29, 32 and 30 sets of papers respectively. Adilabad municipality accounted for 149 sets of nominations.

Kagaznagar and Asifabad civic bodies saw 94 and 45 sets of nominations. Nirmal, Bhainsa and Khanapur civic bodies registered 65, 68 and 23 sets of nominations.
