Adilabad: Collector Sikta Patnaik has instructed officials of Medical and Health Department to carry out health checkups of pregnant women every month without fail. She inspected a primary health centre at Narsapur village in Echoda mandal on Tuesday.
She advised the officials to carry out medical investigations if some pregnant women who fail to turn up for the programme. She asked them to track the medical condition of the women by calling local ASHA workers and sarpanches, and find out as to why the woman could not undergo the checkup.
The IAS officer suggested the officials to shift the pregnant women to nearby primary health centres or Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences to ensure safe delivery.
She instructed district medical and health officer Dr Rathod Narender to create a 15-bed birth waiting room at the medical institution for the convenience of pregnant women. The Collector earlier inspected various wards and wings of the health centre.
DMHO Dr Narender, Programme Officer Navya Sudha, Narsapur PHC medical officer Himabindhu and many other officials were present.
