Adilabad: Farmers demanded that the State government provide clarity on the acquisition of lands meant for the creation of a proposed airport in the district centre. They staged a sit-in in front of the Collectorate here on Monday.

Raising slogans against the government, the agitating farmers sought compensation of Rs 2 crore per acre. They said that they were deeply worried about their farmlands following the announcement of the airport by local MLA Payal Shankar and Adilabad MP G Nagesh recently. They wanted the government to provide clarity on the extent of land to be acquired for the facility.

The farmers regretted that none was coming forward to buy their lands following the announcement of the project. They urged Collector Rajarshi Shah to inform them in advance about the lands to be taken for the creation of the airport so that they could live without tension. They said that their livelihoods would be affected if their lands were acquired. They sought reasonable compensation for their source of living.
