Adilabad: BRS district president Jogu Ramanna requested officials of the Cotton Corporation of India (CCI) to extend remunerative support price to cotton farmers of the district.

He submitted a representation to the CCI manager here requesting him to offer the minimum support price of Rs 8,800 and a bonus of Rs 475 on Tuesday.

Speaking on the occasion, Ramanna said that the district produces fine quality cotton, but the farmers were unable to get remunerative prices for their cotton produce.

He regretted that Local MLA Payal Shankar and MP G Nagesh belonged to BJP, but failed to do justice to the farmers. Shankar was trying to skip procurement of cotton citing meetings of the party, he said, asking why the MLA and MP were not bringing the issue to the notice of the union government.

He asked whether only farmers of Gujarat get the remunerative price, stating that the BJP was not recognizing the farmers of other States.

Ramanna faulted the officials of the corporation as to why preparatory meetings were not organized by inviting representatives of various political parties, district Collector, farmers and elected representatives.

He alleged that efforts were being made to dupe the farmers by forming a nexus between private traders and the officials.

The former minister also accused the Centre of backing the traders in purchasing the cotton produce and charged that the officials did not provide answers when requested for commercial purchasing of the cotton. He said that the growers were registering huge losses due to the indifferent attitude of the officials.
