Adilabad: Adilabad MLA Jogu Ramanna is set to script a world record by planting 3.5 lakh saplings near Adilabad town within an hour to mark his birthday on July 4. He will attempt to surpass a record plantation of 3.03 lakh saplings created in Turkey. The MLA accepted the Green India Challenge initiated by Rajya Sabha member J Santosh Kumar.
“Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao conceived Haritha Haram and has always been interested in increasing the green cover of the State. I drew inspiration from him in planting saplings and in regeneration of the forest. I decided to celebrate my birthday in a low-key affair. I requested my followers and supporters to plant saplings on the occasion instead of putting up life size posters and cutting cakes,” Ramanna told Telangana Today.
The legislator stated that forests occupy around 9,000 acres near Mavala mandal centre. “We are planning to plant 3.5 lakh saplings in over 400 acres of land available to regenerate the Mavala forest range. Over 6.5 lakh saplings would be planted in other parts of the district under Haritha Haram. Santosh Kumar was invited to grace the event as chief guest, he added.
The MLA stated that arrangements were being made to make the massive plantation drive a success. He said that members of Telangana Rashtra Samithi would participate in the plantation programme across the district.
