Adilabad: Seven persons from a gang were arrested for allegedly diverting rice belonging to the Public Distribution System. Police seized a scooter, seven mobile phones and 26 quintals of rice from them. One more accused was absconding.
Adilabad DSP L Jeevan Reddy said that Shaik Afsar, MD Rizwan, Shaik Aftab, Abdul Sattar, Rachekar Vilas, Kommu Ram and Abdul Raheem, all from different parts of Adilabad town. Another accused, Farhan of Maharashtra is still at large.
Afsar, Rizwan, Aftab and Sattar confessed to committing the crime. They admitted to purchasing the rice grains from Vilas, Ram and Raheem, dealers in the town. They revealed that they were diverting the rice from Telangana to Maharashtra. They reportedly told police that they were reselling the grains under popular brands.
